ASBESTOS
General Information/Summary
- Regulated Material - More than 1% asbestos
fiber content means that a
material is Asbestos Containing Material
(ACM).
- Building Use/Historical Usage/Components
Types - Asbestos was no longer
manufactured for most uses in 1978.
However, existing stocks of materials could continue to be used in
building construction. Common ACMs are floor tile, ceiling tiles,
sprayed-on insulation, transite board and siding, certain caulking and
tile and boiler and pipe insulation.
- Products
Containing ACM - These include, in addition to the
above, brake shoes, gaskets, some plaster, some concrete,
"popcorn" ceilings, rope insulation, and a host
of woven ACM and ACM friction products.
