Asbestos found at Extreme Makeover Site
RT Environmental Services, Inc. completes unique opportunity servicing the local community. RT was among the first contractors to complete preparation work for ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition".
RT Environmental Services, Inc. conducted an environmental hazardous material investigation of the property which consisted of surveying the building for Asbestos, Lead base paint, PCBs, Mercury, and Freon.
This investigation was required to clear the house of environmental issues prior to demolition.
The only hazardous material identified during the investigation was Asbestos Floor tile; located in the basement. An abatement contractor, under the supervision of RT, completed the Asbestos abatement.
The lower level of the Py home was sealed and contained with heavy plastic sheeting, according to EPA and the City of Philadelphia regulations. The air in the work site was constantly monitored and an air lock was erected, which was used for entering and exiting the work area. The air was filtered using HEPA filter negative machines.
Using a special process employing dry ice to shrink the asbestos tiles, the tile was removed. Hazardous waste was wetted, double bagged, and disposed in an EPA-approved landfill. While the barriers were in place; RT obtained air samples and performed final air clearance testing as required by the City of Philadelphia. RT submitted an Inventory Asbestos Report to obtain a demolition permit from the City of Philadelphia - and demolition was under way.
