Storage Tanks
Closure of AST in Vault
Former automotive repair facility located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania was being redeveloped, and RT’s client discovered an unknown tank below the concrete floor. RT mobilized to the site to complete tank closure activities. The liquid was removed from the tank, thick sludge and residual oil were removed, and the interior of the tank cleaned. The tank has large holes in the bottom over 2” in size in several locations. Once cleaned, the tank was removed from the ground and a concrete vault was present around the tank (an aboveground tank located in a vault filled with soil). Impacted soil was removed from the vault and containerized. The vault was cleaned, and the area was restored. Waste characterization completed on the oil residual, sludge and impacted soil documented the presence of lead at hazardous waste levels. RT coordinated the hazardous waste removal operations for the waste materials, approximately 60 tons. The facility was redeveloped in the following months as an automobile sales and service center.
