Storage Tanks
New Hope, PA UST Removal
RT recently completed the proper closure of five unregulated orphan underground storage tanks (USTs) for a developer client at a commercial property located in New Hope, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The USTs consisted of two former gasoline tanks and three former heating oil tanks ranging in size from 550-gallons to 6,000-gallon in capacity. RT directed and oversaw the uncovering, cleaning, and removal of the USTs in accordance with PADEP recommended procedures. In this case, localized impacted soils were identified by our field geologist during UST removal activities, and materials required segregation during excavation. Materials were subsequently characterized for proper disposal at an appropriately licensed and insured disposal facility. Post-excavation and confirmatory soil samples were then collected in accordance with PADEP’s Site Assessment Sampling Requirements at Regulated Storage Tank System Closures Guidance document. RT’s field team prides itself on attention to detail and communicating issues to our clients at the moment they occur so they can be addressed promptly and in the most cost-effective manner. In this case, final clearance sampling indicated that all contaminant concentrations were below their respective PADEP Action Levels, and site construction was able to resume on schedule.
