College Campus Asbestos Containing Materials Survey
RT completed a large-scale asbestos containing materials (ACM) survey for three community college campuses located throughout southern New Jersey. The client requested this work to be completed as due diligence, prior to any potential future renovation activities. RT’s scope of work included the inspection, sampling, and laboratory analysis of accessible suspect ACMs in twenty-one buildings associated with the community college. RT’s survey included the collection of approximately 1,300 samples of suspect ACMs throughout the interiors and exteriors of the subject buildings. The laboratory analytical results identified 16 different building materials to meet the definition of ACM. The types of materials identified to be asbestos containing included pipe insulation, floor tile and associated mastic, sink undercoat, joint compound, and floor leveler. The identified ACMs were recommended to be properly abated prior to any future renovations activities that have the potential to disturb the identified ACMs. The results of RT’s survey ultimately provided important information to prevent asbestos exposure to building occupants and to assist the community college with future health and safety decisions. RT regularly advises our clients on the proper handling and management of ACMs whether they are planned to be abated or continue to be managed under an appropriate Operations and Maintenance (O&M) plan.
